Essay on All that Glitters is not Gold

Essay on All that Glitters is not Gold

The saying, 'All that glitters is not gold', conveys the idea that all things that are shiny, glittery, or bright are not appealing or useful to us. Despite the fact that gold shines and sparkles, not all things that sparkle and shine are gold. An object's real value doesn't depend on its appearances, since appearances are often deceptive. Instead, one should guarantee the inner qualities of a person or thing before getting influenced by its glittering outer appearance. The proverb shows the outlook of life and the importance of never regretting your decisions in life. There are many circumstances in which people disguise themselves with shiny and glittery appearances to survive in this world.

Currently, beauty refers to physical characteristics, such as facial features and body types, as well as the use of beauty products and shimmering clothing. These are the attributes that reflect harmony and draw people in. While chasing beauty from the outside, the pursuit of inner beauty is forgotten.

There have been long-standing manipulations, using people to trick others. It is important to realize that not all people who are helpful to you are doing so with your best interests in mind. They may behave pleasantly to impress you, but this does not necessarily mean they are telling the truth. There is a common idea that evokes thoughts about the glitter of the overlying superficiality. Nevertheless, people should not judge or measure another person through their outward appearances, but by their inner qualities and character.

A similar mask of goodness and kindness are worn by politicians during elections to incite the voting public. The politicians have a tendency to forget about their speeches once they win the election and provide influential speeches on how to help develop the community and win the confidence of the public.

It is not the appearance of something or someone that determines its quality. It is no wonder that diamonds are found in coal mines and that lotus bloom in mud. Similarly, a well-dressed person is the centre of attention. A person with ugly features or dirty clothes may still possess evil or unethical features at times. Likewise, a person with unethical features is often not a good person at heart.

A final example is fake friends. Some friends may appear to be nice and beautiful on the surface, but on closer inspection, they could be the ones making negative comments and talks. The proverb "All that glitters is not gold" is the belief of a logical and intelligent individual. This classic chant has remained quite relevant and holds true. Hence, simple living and a high-minded lifestyle are the best for a better life. We are all drawn towards outward appearances, but our intelligence guides us to appreciate and evaluate a person's inner beauty.

Conclusion

Simple living with high thinking is the mantra for a good life, as shown in the above adage. Ever since one's youth, this adage has been a vital lesson to learn. It is better for you to understand as early as possible the ethics of All that Glitters is not Gold.
